In the beginning of the chapter Vayishlach, Jacob returns
home after many years away. He gets ready to meet his
brother Esau but he is afraid because Esau was Coming
with four hundred men and Esau still might be angry for
Jacob stole his birthright. So then he splits his family into
two in order to protect his family.
In the middle of the night, Jacob meets a stranger. The
stranger and Jacob wrestle until the break of dawn. The
stranger wants to leave but Jacob won't let him. Then the
Stranger hurts Jacob's hip socket but Jacob still does not
let ho of him. The man Jacob was wrestling was an angel.
Jacob made the angel give him a blessing. The blessing
was a new name, "Israel". "Israel" means you have
struggled with G-d.
Jacob and Esau meet but there is no fighting. They hug
and kiss then go in different directions. Esau went back to
Seir and Jacob went to Succoth, and built a house for
himself.
On the way there, Rachel dies while giving birth to her son,
Benjamin.
